5 Easy Ways to Calm Your Dog During a Storm

5 Easy Ways to Calm Your Dog During a Storm
Does your dog shiver and shake during storms? I’ve seen it a hundred times with my dog, Gracie. She silently crawls between my feet under my desk. This is a tell-tale sign that a storm is coming. This caught my attention and I wanted to understand what I could do to help my little one not be afraid anymore of storms.
I know many dogs are afraid of thunder. The loud claps and noise are frightening to a dog and they feel unsafe.  They need to feel secure and this is the reason dogs try to go under tables, closets, under blankets and even in bathtubs to feel secure.
Here are five easy and simple ways I found to make your dog calm and not fear thunderstorms.
 1.   Do not coddle and over soothe your dog. I know it will be hard to resist but don’t do it. Just don’t scream and cry as it will make your dog feel even worse. Let them know you are there and speak calmly and reassuring. Do not show fear in your voice. They need to know that they are safe and secure with you. If he senses any insecurity or fear in your voice It can cause even higher anxiety and stress to your pet.
2.     Make the room quiet by turning off all loud devices such as Televisions, Radios, computers etc.
3.     Play with your dog. Grab his favorite toy and engage with them him. Encourage him with a game of Tug or fetch. Get his mind off the storm
4.     Wrap your dog in a tight blanket or garment made to snuggle a dog. Make him feel safe and protected by putting a nice blanket will almost always do the trick to calm him down
5.     Storm Shelter room. Pick a room in your home and use the room as a quiet place. Teach your dog the room is a safe and comforting place.
A dog’s fear of storms can be heart-wrenching but the good news is if you follow these five easy steps, you and your pooch will be on your way to feeling safe and secure during any thunderstorm.
The even better news is that cuddles are still free and full of love. It calms and reassures your dog. So, cuddle to your heart's content.

Is your Pooch Pudgy? What can you do?

Okay, we have all seen them… A pudgy little pug waddling down the street or a fat wiener dog rolling along with their masters. I love my little plump bundle of fur more than anything and I know I am guilty of pampering her little too much. A treat for coming inside after using the bathroom…to a treat for just being so cute! Yep, that’s me in a nutshell. Maybe that’s you too? If so, that’s ok because we can fix this before it’s too late. We love our babies and don’t want anything to happen to them. According to the Association of Pet Obesity Prevention, 54% percent of dogs and 59% of cats are overweight.  There are nearly  70 million dogs a round the world! That makes for a lot of fat little doggies! Having an overweight dog can lead to health problems plus a shorter life. I know I don’t want that for my little baby. Neither do you. Stop my doggie from jumping please!

Stop my doggie from jumping, please! Let me guess, each day, when you come in from work, your little furry pal is so excited to see you she jumps all over you, almost knocking you down. You love her and love the affection but the paws and scratches are getting to be too much! And having guests over or a visitor at your door is downright embarrassing with loud barking and the jumping. It has to stop but you don’t know how   Here are a few simple tips to help you calm little one down and teach her to not jump. Doggies want our attention more than anything. (Except for bones or something to chew) For starters, dogs don’t understand our language. We think they do because when we speak they perk up their cute little ears. Not so.  All they understand is “dog” So when you tell them to get down or quit jumping, it doesn’t matter to her, she’s got your attention even though you are giving her negative comments. You might even be scolding her. To her, it’s all attention! And
